PALMDALE, CA, July 2, 2013 – On Friday June 28, 2013, Governor Edmund G. Brown urged Californians to make July “Water Smart Month”. California’s water is a precious resource and as stated by the Governor, “is the backbone to the success of the state’s economy, public health, and abundant wildlife.” As we lead into the warmer weather, July is the perfect time to practice sustainable water consumption. The Governor points out “that the snow packs are shrinking and the state will not see reservoirs begin to fill gain until fall.”
In the Antelope Valley landscape is the single largest use of water. With drought conditions, the AV’s arid climate, and limited water supplies everyone can help by observing “Water Smart Month.” Help by checking sprinkler systems, repairing broken pipes and fixtures, up-grading and installing more efficient irrigation technologies.
Palmdale Water District has landscape irrigation rebates that PWD customers can take advantage of; such as MP rotators, smart controllers and the “Cash for Grass” program. Please see www.palmdalewater.org, under conservation. Check other local water purveyors for their conservation programs.
Everyone is invited to help. As the Governor has stated, “I invite all Californians to practice more sustainable water consumption, whether it be watering the lawn less frequently, constructing a drip irrigation system for the garden or upgrading existing systems with smart irrigation controllers.”
